About Me:
Why “Rareflight”?
Rareflight comes from a book by Gordon MacKenzie called ”Orbiting the Giant Hairball”. It is an odd-ball Organizational Development book that offers amazing insights into how corporate culture slowly but surely squeezes the fun and joy out of the workplace….and a enthusiastic message about to keep it even among those circumstances. Within the book Gordon posts an anonymous newspaper clip he collected. The clip says the following:
Rare Flight
Departing From: Devious Dependency
Destination: High Triumph
Not the plundering triumph of machismo where the game is to crush a brother or a sister, to become the victor of the day - tomorrow's distinguished prey. Not that triumph. There is no deliverance there. Not that triumph, but the triumph of finding your divine humanity. To be divinely human - profoundly, passionately human, you must dare to forsake the fear-fed grappling for security that enslaves your spirit. Say “Goodbye, Dependency!” Unfold your wings. Brave skyward to the sanctity of grace, whole in the knowledge that - though the mud of your beginnings will soon reclaim you - you are living your moment, heart and soul.
I found that to be such a compelling vision of how to live courageously that I took as a moniker…may it remind me of my own goals to do so.
So, Rareflight. Nice to meet you.
I joined Gaia many years ago (back when it was Zaadz) then went through a time of darkness…of mental “lockdown”…then went on a long walkabout…..and now I have returned.
I returned because I made many dear friends here; I encountered amazing talent, wit, grace and sources of inspiration. I returned because I do think this place can ultimately help make me a better person and because….well I want to be of service in some way to the larger cause….I want to learn to be useful.
So lend an ear, and share a story, and put a hoe in my hands and let me help pull the weeds and till the soil. If I'm going to enjoy the bounty of the harvest table I have to help grow the garden.
Blessings to you.
